Advisor – Power Contract Negotiations
From 1967 to 2002, Gary Wilson worked with BC Hydro (Canada’s second largest electric utility), becoming Senior Executive Vice President early in his career. Subsequently, after 35 years, Gary became the project director of Westhawk Development, where he completed a coal to energy plan for a 500MW thermal plant after successfully negotiating a partnership with the First Nations. Most recently, since 2007, Mr. Wilson has been the president of J and G Energy Consulting Ltd, a management consultant for coal to energy projects.
Throughout his career Mr. Wilson has been known to be an effective decision maker who manages business risks based on sound financial analysis. He has received recognition and numerous commendations, including the President’s award, for his contributions and achievements working with independent power producers, Native groups and the Government. Gary brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to ecoTECH’s Global Advisory Board.
Advisor – Liaison, Montana Government
Since 1997, Gary Amestoy has been the President of Amestoy Consulting, LLC, which specializes in state and federal government relations; regulatory and environmental permitting; project development and coordination; economic development; lobbying; grant writing; and other associated natural resource development issues. Prior to being an independent consultant, Gary worked for the State of Montana for 25 years where he managed the Montana Mine Permitting and Reclamation Program, in addition to other natural resource programs. During this career, Mr. Amestoy developed a wealth of knowledge and experience related to the Montana Environmental Policy Act, and the coordination of the associated water quality, air quality, and solid and hazardous waste statues/permits required.
After 35 years experience working with the state and federal governments, Gary has developed excellent working relationships with the Montana Governor’s Office, as well as multiple State Departments and the Montana Legislature. Gary is a native Montanan, where he obtained a B.S. in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Advisor – Engineering & Project Management, Finance
David is a veteran power industry executive – Manager, Treasury at BC Transmission Corp.; Treasury Manager at BC Hydro; Product Manager Universal Dynamics; Project Manager Fletcher Challenge Canada; Applications Engineer Chemetics International; Mechanical Engineer Swan Wooster Engineering.
He has managed capital projects from $1 million to $15 million involving retrofits to existing electrical and process control systems in a pulp and paper mill; negotiated agreements with consulting engineers, suppliers and contractors; supervised engineering design; procured all major equipment and material; developed contracting strategy and ensured work was done to specifications.
David has modeled, analyzed and developed power generation opportunities throughout the Pacific Northwest and BC ranging up to $200 million in capital cost.
Advisor – Sustainability Programs & Cap and Trade
David Lahaie is the President of Evergreen Recycling, located in Seattle, WA. For the past 15 years, Evergreen has delivered turn-key sustainable solutions for by-products of manufacturing industries, primarily through reallocation as an energy or raw material resource. Evergreen assists its manufacturing and energy clients with innovative solutions to hedging energy costs, cap and trade and economic turbulence. Client work focus is on various stages of engineering, government affairs and market implementation across a broad array of clients and industries both public and private.
David earned a BS in Marine Engineering in 1981. He is the former manager of business development for Burlington Environmental, Inc. based in Seattle, Washington. He was an engineer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, responsible for engineering and support for oceanographic research projects staged throughout the pacific.
David is married with two children and is active on non-profit and for-profit boards. A sought- after speaker on sustainability and business development, he regularly presents to University MBA programs and to industry conferences on energy and by-products management.
Advisor – Plant Engineering & Design
Bernie Pahlke has been the President of BEP Engineering since 1981, celebrating his 29th year in the Forest and Mining Industry. During which, Bernie has managed up to 25 employees as well as the coordination of many multidiscipline sub-consultants’ contributions to BEP Engineering’s projects. Bernie specializes in technical assistance and design in the areas of conceptualization, development and application of drawings in sequence to accomplish a high level of plant engineering efficiency.
Bernie applies practical aptitude to the projects based on his 39 years experience in the industry. Bernie’s extensive experience in the forestry and sawmilling industries have also brought a deeper understanding to our group of the nuances of those industries and ways that ecoTECH can create synergistic opportunities within the forestry sector. BEP engineering has worked with many of the most successful companies in Western Canada. Bernie Pahlke is a Certified Technician and is a member of the following organizations: Association of Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AMEBC); American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (APEG); Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC); and Surrey Chamber of Commerce.
Advisor – Ecological Design
Dr. Easton is currently the President and CEO of International EcoGen Inc. in Vancouver, B.C. He earned his Ph.D. in the field of ecological genetics from the University of Liverpool (1975) in England. He then worked for the Canadian Government in the Fisheries Department for 8 years studying lobster populations in Newfoundland. After this, he started his own genetics research company which was originally focused on broodstock development in Pacific salmon for the aquaculture industry. He was subsequently awarded an $800,000 research grant from the Canadian Bacterial Diseases Research Centres of Excellence Program to develop a strain of salmon resistant to bacterial kidney disease. Over the past ten years Dr. Easton has refocused on the environment and the genetic effects of contaminants and pollutants. He has worked under contract with researchers in universities, government agencies, environmental foundations, First Nations groups and industry to consider the effects of genetic ecotoxicology.
Dr. Easton is also currently investigating the practicality of new technical solutions to solid and liquid waste management. He is involved in using his knowledge of analytical chemistry and genetic ecotoxicology to determine the effectiveness of pollution control for the new technologies. He believes that prevention of contamination is the solution to achieving good environmental stewardship.
Advisor – Government Relations & Regulatory Matters
Mr. Wallis is currently President and CEO of The Van Horne Institute for International Transportation and Regulatory Affairs, and additionally, President of Peter Wallis Consulting Ltd., a private firm that provides consulting services to the airline and transport industries. Mr. Wallis is Chairman of the Board for the Calgary Airport Authority, and has served on multiple Boards and advisory groups in Calgary during the past 20 years.
Mr. Wallis’ education includes a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall, and a Master of Laws from the University of London, England. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and has served as legal counsel to the Canadian Transport Commission between 1980 and 1995, Mr. Wallis held numerous positions with Canadian Airlines International Ltd. and its predecessors, most recently being Vice President, Government and Regulatory Affairs. Prior to joining Canadian Airlines, Mr. Wallis’ experience included a variety of senior political and business positions with the Canadian Transport Commission.
Advisor – Water Treatment & Waste Management
Peter Yew brings many years of experience and expertise in technologies for water purification and waste management. He is President and CEO of H20 Relief Management Inc., Water Solutions Inc. and Aquavive Technologies Inc., of Vancouver BC. H20 and Water Solutions are manufacturers and distributors of proprietary water treatment additives and systems integrators of water treatment process equipment. Peter has also had extensive experience in the industrial coatings industry, and has many years of business management service in Asia and North America. He brings this wealth of expertise to the design of the water management components of our power stations.
